Images, Vestiges, Shadows / 1996
A collaborative project between The University of Sydney and The Faculty of Creative Arts, University of Wollongong (UoW), curated by Diana Wood Conroy. This exhibition was held at The MacLaurin Hall, The University of Sydney and was opened on 2 October 1996 by poet and writer Kate Lllewellyn. The exhibition was designed by by John Sencszuk, then UOW theatre designer, and Phillippa Webb.
In this installation the specific archaeological site of Paphos, Cyprus was evoked through an imaginative and poetic re-presentation of the ancient theatrical space. The artefacts and images created by the artists who participated in the excavation in 1996 were contained within this context. It was designed by John Sencszuk, then UoW theatre designer, and Phillippa Webb his student, with artworks and archaeological photographs from artists who had worked on the site.
Artists involved in the exhibition were Simon Cashman, Diana Wood Conroy, Rowan Conroy, Anna Sophocles, Robyn Outram, and Lynn Brunet.
